Dereham Carnival Crafters
Dereham Carnival Crafters became the start of an idea when Ann Edwards presented Judy Rogers with a handful of knitted poppies three years ago. A suggestion was made by the Carnival Chair to create one for every soldier named on our war memorial and display them on Carnival Day, from that point on the two ladies were on a mission.
From there the idea grew and grew, their numbers quickly multiplying (the poppies and the team), their houses slowly taken over by all kinds of knitted creatures and their husbands wading through masses of donated material.
Needless to say the 'Yarn Bombing' that appeared in town ahead of Carnival 2017 certainly brightened the Market Place and got people in the spirit.
Since starting the group has become so much more than just a few friends getting together to knit and chat. The Crafters has become a lifeline to some who have no family locally, others who have suffered with low self esteem and a starting point for people who want to learn a new skill. Running entirely free with funds from the Carnival, local businesses and grants the group offers everyone the chance to make a contribution to our future Carnival celebrations.
